The decline of the Yellow Pages and the newspaper dining section has created a challenge for restaurant owners. It’s no longer enough simply to pay your yearly ad fee to the phone company and get a steady stream of customers. It’s also much less relevant, now, what the local restaurant critic thinks. The fact is, however, it also creates an amazing opportunity.
A massive market

Historically, social networks have not been a significant source of business for retailers. As recently as 2009, less than 13 percent of consumers said that they used social networks in order to research retail products or to find a retailer. Of course, that data is now truly historical. The change to the social media landscape in the past two years, led by Facebook, is truly staggering.
A study [...]

About $23K every minute, if you believe a recent study from the Penn State College of Information Sciences & Technology.
Researchers at the PSU IS&T college uncovered the math by taking a hard look at data generated by Collecta, a real-time search engine that bills its users as always “in the know.”
Even before that, the Penn State research team asked a relatively simple question [...]

For all of the hype surrounding social media marketing these days, you’d think there would be very few firms left on the planet that aren’t adopting Facebook, Twitter and MySpace strategies.
Unfortunately, if you happen to think that, you would be wrong.
In fact, a Q4 2010 study conducted by eMarketer suggests that a full 20% of companies with 100 or more employees have no plans to utilize [...]
