Network?..Big or Small?

Posted on February 14, 2009

Every now and then simple questions puzzle us. For instance; either to buy a luxurious mansion or a convenient four bedroom flat, put on a long coat or a short top and purchase a Mercedes or small ford verve? Apart from affordability and personal liking, your choice depends on the size as well. Many of the status conscious would love to live in a mansion while a good number would love to have a convenient, agile life of that in a flat. Space happens to be an imperative force of your inclination. Between the two force groups, the one that explains your space needs finally wins.

But why am I talking about size? Does it matter? Well! It does. The size of a social network counts a great deal when we talk of social networking platforms. I hope you?ve heard of social network potential (SNP) and don?t get vexed even if the technical term is alien to you. It simply refers to the size of the network that an individual holds on a social networking platform. This means the number of friends and colleagues on your friend?s network make up this number. Now, how is this number of significance to you?

A social networking platform such as Facebook is not just a partaking medium but it?s a confluence of ideas that can work wonders for your brand. To get things working all we need is a promotional campaign and a network. A promotional scheme will explain ways of getting people speaking about your product and a network will let the idea flow through it. You can already grasp the idea of using network?s potential in your favor.

According to recent updates, Facebook clings to 150 million active users. This means you can derive millions of people into your brand?s conversation. Now the number theory has started to make sense. The more gigantic network used for this idea serves the purpose better then a small network that might be targeting your niche in specific. Many of the young social networks try to maneuver by telling people that their network might be smaller but it targets specific market. This isn?t true though because the larger the network is like facebook, the easier it is to spread the idea which is our basic motive. Within such huge networks, products can even find their own niche. In my opinion, huge networks fit in better for your marketing needs therefore getting onto Facebook is more beneficial then MySpace or LinkedIn.
