Facebook?s constant evolution and fine tuning of its products has
increased user engagement on the site tremendously. One key feature
being launched is called the ?Arrington Feature.? This allowsmeans you
can subscribe to peoples? information similar to how you can on
Twitter and Friendfeed.
Facebook also plans on adding filters which include a general news
feed and can filter further by friend lists and applications. Any type
of content from the homepage will be shareable with friends. The whole
idea is to open up a little bit like Twitter allows and give others
the capabilities of viewing all your activities if you let them. The
news feed will also be real-time with filtering controls, creating a
higher level engagement not experienced before.
Facebook pages and profiles will also be merged. Pages were able to
send updates before but now Facebook is trying to mold Pages into more
of a focused communication medium where Pages can communicate with
Fans more indepthly.
As Facebook continues to innovate, expect industries to watch closely.
Zuckerberg has not commented on things like ?feeds? being indexed by
search engines however he has hinted progress towards location based
services and the like. These innovations will eventually become more
streamlined as the core functionality of supporting people?s social
graph becomes ground in stone.
