Facebook for iPhone 3.0 a sneak peek

Facebook’s lead engineer for iPhone applications, Joe Hewitt, has announced an upcoming release of the 3rd version of iPhone applications. According to Joe, “98%” of the development work is completed and he will be announcing the launch as soon as he has delivered the latest version to Apple.

Following are the key features on Facebook for iPhone 3.0:

1. The “new” News feed
2. Like
3. Notes
4. Pages
5. Events (including the ability to RSVP)
6. Create New Photo Albums
7. Upload Photos to any album
8. Zoom in Photos
9. Easier Photo Tagging
10. Profile Picture Albums
11. A new home screen for easy access to all stuff, search and notifications
12 Add your favorite profiles and pages to home screen
13 Better Notifications (they link to the comments so you can reply)
14. Quickly call or text people right from the friends page
15. Messages you are typing will be stored automatically if you quit or are interrupted by a phone call.

It is needless to mention that the new home screen experience with the additional features of notes, pages, events and photo albums would definitely give a friendlier user interface and extended interactivity for users to interact on facebook through iPhone 3.0. This is good news for the brands with facebook pages. This extra feature of Pages for brands will have visibility far better than before when users interact.

But that is not all, of course! Joe Hewitt mentioned facebook’s concern for people who have been looking forward to “Push Notifications” as well. Joe assures that push notifications are in the development process and would be surely incorporated in the version 3.1, later this summer. But for now we look forward to the launch of version 3.0.
