Facebook Combats Twitter!

Facebook redesigned its home page this month, paying more attention to the status updates. This brought the smoldering discussion bear foot on centre stage. Already the battle was on between the two social media giants, battling on the number of unique visitors, engagement patterns, business potency and revenue. Twitter?s fan group is trying to preclude that Facebook is trying to follow Twitter?s steps by stressing more emphasis on the status updates. This is true that Tweets; the micro blogging or quick status updates is the endowment of Twitter but is Facebook really about status updates only and is the design a mock up of Twitter? I differ!

Facebook?s headstone is that it lets people know what their friends are up to through photo sharing and tagging, updates about friends? adding up new friends, updates on notes, groups and pages and of course the status updates. Facebook?s popularity rests on engagement features and it is not that unwise to loose its golden-egg feature for anything less then better. What happened with the new design is that it has stretched out status updates vertically and put all the photo tagging updates on the right panel. I believe the chaos is only because of the user?s immunity to older design.

Do the two media magnets, Mark Zukerberg and Jack Dorsey believe in this conflict too? I don?t think so! If Mark is seen tweeting to get a close idea of Twitter then Jack is busy developing new apps that are turning micro blogging service into social networking. It?s all about learning from each other and providing what?s the best. While users engage themselves in a vague battle, people behind the scene put their energies in adopting new features inspired from the either platforms.
